Great British bird watch 2017 (7 replies)
Yes , I have been doing it for several years, I have very few blue tits this year, but a large group of long tailed tits appear every day, also have a pair of collared doves , blackbirds & robins.
No starlings or sparrows this year either.
We take part every year. Usually at my parents house rather than mine as they have more activity. However this year I seem to have a lot of blackbirds in my garden and often hear a robin too!
I usually have sparrows in my garden but I haven't seen any so far this year. They like to dust bath in my soil as I have very sandy light soil.

Wow thats fantastic that we are so involved on here, I saw today 7 or 8 long tailed tits they are difficult to count because they flit all over the place.
My pack arrived yesterday with my robin coaster and my sachet of coffee so we are all set here. 🙂

My parents usually have a few long tailed tits in their garden. They put out berry suet pellets and the little birds absolutely love them. They are a pleasure to see as they don't come down often.
Lets hope lots of birds pay a visit to our gardens this year and the numbers increase for a change 🙂

I definitely have more birds this year than last. 🙂

How did we all do this year then, the first two days my normal birds stayed away, not sure if its because lots more people put food out or whether the birds spotted me sitting in the window with my cup of tea and notepad waiting for them to arrive. But on the Monday I had better luck and got a good tally.

Not much around when I did the count, they came 2 by 2 , 2 Robins, 2 Blackbirds, 2 Blue Tits, 2 Great Tits & 2 Dunnocks.
Still no Sparrows or Starlings at all.

Who else is going to be taking part in this survey this year? I have noticed an increase in the bird life in my garden last year, hopefully due to the planting I have been doing.
Normally I can boast one or two robins, two male blackbirds 15 or more sparrows, not sure which type, a flock of starlings, two long tailed tits, blue tits and one great tit, two collar doves (sadly one died in the recent snow we had) two pigeons and last but not least three magpies.
