Black bamboo needs to reach maturity before it sends up black canes. The plants can take at least two or three years from planting to become fully established and often need a bit longer to reach maturity. It is very hard to say exactly when this will be as it really varies from plant to plant and often also depends on the site and surroundings. Give it a bit more time.
