The soil line is indicated by a difference in the colour and texture of the stem. However it is not always that obvious. When planting an apple tree, ensure the roots are below ground and the graft is above ground and the tree should grow well. Generally it is better to plant slightly too shallow rather than planting too deeply, as deep planting may cause the stem to rot.
