Begonias were made for this. The cascading varieties look fantastic in hanging baskets and really appreciate some shade. Better still, they will flower over a very long period, right up to the first frosts. You could also try some of the trailing fuchsias in your containers and baskets. There are some really attractive varieties available.

If you fancied growing some foliage plants, why not try Coleus. Cultivars of C. scutellariodes or C. x hybridus have wonderfully coloured leaves that will certainly brighten up a shady spot.
