Purple peppers (3 replies)

How on earth do you know when a purple pepper is ripe? I have mine in the greenhouse and the peppers went pruple fairly quickly and they are steadily getting bigger. We made the mistake of thinking one was ready when it was quite small and found out our mistake. I tried another one today and although it was better it was still not fully ripe.  It says on the label that they are ready between August and October.  Perhaps I will give them a few more weeks.

Hi Carolb,

While this may not apply to all sweet peppers, usually when they are ripe the leaf which is at the same level or immediately underneath the pepper will flip and turn upside down.

It's pepper's way of saying: "Hey, I'm ready!" 🙂
