Problems with my hollyhock leaves (5 replies)
Hollyhock rust, not easy to deal with, I don't grow them anymore because of it.
Hi Carolb,
You could try the old German varieties 'Park Allee', 'Park Rondell' and 'Park Frieden', they are not immune but will resist rust quite well compared to traditional hollyhocks.
Thankyou both, I had the feeling it was rust, apart from the unsightly leaves does it cause the plant any long term harm?

Yes it will weaken the plant over time.
Thankyou, Hemeroholic, that just reinforces my decision this morning, sadly it has to come out, I bought it from the lovely lady at my local market, she does wonderful plants, but it is planted in between two hollyhocks that I grew from seed and although there is slight marking on their leaves they still look good.
It has to come out, wish me luck. 🙂

I have a very sad looking hollyhock it has beautiful black flowers but the leaves are covered with what look like rust or scale insects, the leaves go brown and drop off, I have a feeling they will have to come out and go to the big compost bin in the sky soon 🙁
Any ideas what this might be please?
