Magnolia tree (No replies)

Hi. I have a spectacular Magnolia tree in my garden, close to the house. I want to lay a patio on the grass adjacent to the house, leaving a small area of grass/chippings around the magnolia. Please could someone advise if the magnolia will survive if its root system is partially covered with paving slabs (I understand the root system extends well beyond the canopy)
