Ideas for seeds for children to grow (4 replies)
Hi yellowclare
When I was a little girl I used to love growing mustard seeds in an egg shell but nowadays children love to get into the garden to grow their own veg don't they?
Radish, carrots and sunflowers are so easy to grow. Why not try them on those this spring? Or potatoes in growing bags maybe? Not too high maintenance but tasty!!
Have fun!

Hi yellowclare,
Maybe some giant pumpkins?
Children also love the more unusual plants, like Mimosa pudica, which reacts to the lightest touch, or growing bananas or palm trees from seed?
Strawberries are also a sure bet 🙂
Thanks guys some great advice.
Also have a look at the RHS campaign for school gardening website. https://schoolgardening.rhs.org.uk. Its full of information suitable for children and gives some great information on what to grow with children. You don't have to be a member to access the resources either.
I've found peas are really easy and can be sown now, If the children can;t wait for them to grow fully, you can harvest them as pea shoots. Very tasty! Flowers such as calendula and nasturtiums .also easy to grow

Hi
I would like to encourage my children to grow some seeds this spring. What are the best varieties to try and when can we start sowing them?
Many thanks
