Hi craigmason71, try growing pear ‘Doyenne du Comice’ this is my favourite it’s full of flavour and perfect for a pot

Hi,

If you've got room for only one pear, it will need to be self-fertile, so choose Conference or Concorde. If going for taste, Beurre Hardy or Beurre Superfin are among the best, but will need another variety as pollinator for best results. So your trees do not get too big, I would recommend they are grafted on Quince C rootstock.

For apples, Gala or Honeycrisp are really nice dessert apples, but will need another variety for pollination. If you only want one, maybe try the self fertile Laxton's Superb, Red Falstaff or Sunset. Best dwarfing rootstock would be M27.

I would go with Conference or Concorde, like Florexpert said, make sure its on a dwarfing rootstock. It can depend on where you live too, I am way up north and some are a bit tender to grow up here (moray).

Apple, James Grieve is a nice one.
