Clematis urophylla 'Winter Beauty' - Help! It’s not flowering 😞 (2 replies)

I planted 2 Winter Beauty clematis earlier this year and they settled in really well in November lots of flower buds appeared and I was delighted. I watched the buds get bigger but gradually started to realise they were not going to open. Now they are dropping off. It’s so disappointing! Can anyone suggest why this might have happened?

No routine pruning is necessary. If the spread of the plant needs to be restricted prune immediately after flowering, cutting back overlong shoots to healthy buds. Apply a slow-release balanced fertiliser and a mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the base of the plant in early spring.
