Planted a cherry tree in 2014 and no growth on it last year, should I give up hope?  Or is it possible for them to take a while to start producing blossom/leaves?

I know the apple trees in my garden are not in blossom at the moment. I don't know much about cherry trees but suspect it is worth giving them a month or two more at least. I didn't think they blossomed until April time?

If there was no growth on it last year I think it's well & truly dead.

If there were no leaves at all last season and no signs of any live buds this year, then there is little hope it is alive...

The rootstock may still be alive and show some growth coming up from beneath the graft point (usually a little bulge on the trunk). If that is the case, you could still graft another variety on the top, that would save you planting a brand new tree and digging another hole in the garden 🙂
