Tree Lilies

I have started growing tree lilies and they are now 2 years old. On a couple of them the upper leaves have turned almost yellow and now I notice that the buds on one of them has turned brown and withered. Any ideas what has caused this? I have about an inch

of good mulch on them and have kept them damp.
