Small willow tree

A few years ago I inherited a small willow tree in a pot. It needed nursing a bit and flourished with pussy willows and catkins each year. This year it started off beautifully then suddenly had what I can only describe as die back. Leaves died and went brown and the branches where this happened went cut back were also dead. It is about 2ft high. It has parts where the leaves are still green, is it worth trying to save it, and if so how? Do willows get die back? Thanks for your help.
