A tub filled with a mixture of beer & water attracts slugs like magnets! You then do need to collect and dispose of them or feed them to the birds (don’t put too much beer, or the birds may not fly straight anymore…)

Ferric phosphate does work, but it is probably just as dangerous to pets as metaldehyde pellets, and dogs in particular because of the chelated EDTA used as an additive to enhance the iron absorption.

Nematodes are safe, but you will need to do regular applications.

If you are not a fan of grapefruits, melon rinds also work wonders 🙂
