If you reside in zone 4 or colder and are expecting a hard frost, cover the trunk and branches in blankets and mulch the top of the root ball to insulate any shallow roots. play connections game

Magnolia tree

Hi. I have a spectacular Magnolia tree in my garden, close to the house. I want to lay a patio on the grass adjacent to the house, leaving a small area of grass/chippings around the magnolia. Please could someone advise if the magnolia will survive if its root system is partially covered with paving slabs (I understand the root system extends well beyond the canopy)

Many thanks.
