I love home grown apples. Delicious in apple pies!

Apple Trees

I moved into my new house earlier in the year and in the garden I have two apple trees which were left by one of the previous owners of the house. How do you identify what type the apples are? Some of the apples do not look very good. Should I replace them as they look really old and straggly? If I cut them right back will they come back ok?

Any advice is much appreciated.
