I think Verbena bonariensis is quite popular for attracting butterflies to gardens. Also lavender. The added bonus is that you will be able to enjoy the scent of the lavender too.

Newbie to gardening with a little bit of horti knowledge but still needing all the advice I can get

Hi all

Can I grow anything yet or am I best to wait until the spring?   I'm keen but too busy at the moment with Christmas and New Year celebrations (also just feel like curling up on the sofa and chilling!)

I have quite a long garden with a jungle at the bottom so there is some wildlife already but it would be lovely to make it look nicer.

I'll try some of your recommendations, Florexpert!

Herbs are great for attracting butterflies and bees. My thyme and majoram especially are always covered in bees when they are in flower. At the moment my pulmonaria and cowslips have bees buzzing around them.

I'm inΒ the norfolk broads and find pinks attract the swallowtail butterfly which are amazing. I saw at least 4 last year.

This Summer it has been the penstomen, tagetes and zinnia flowers that have had the bees buzzing in my garden.
