What's it called? I'm intrigued.... It looks like a money plant leaf but it isn't is it? Weird!!

I've looked on google at aeonium. I think you're right.... I think it's a variety of Aeonium and it's not dying - it naturally dies from below. The leaves shrivel up and die as new ones appear. 

Fab looking plant. It looks like something you'd find in the desert!
